After several months of refurbishment the Cafe/Bar at Portwrinkle has just reopened under a new name Silas Cove.

We’ve been watching the building get repainted, a beach bar built, new fences and interior remodelled for the past 3 months.

Then on Wednesday last week it was finally reopened. Happily the weather was perfect, and people came. The tables outside were full of a mixture of holidaymakers and locals. Inside the restaurant felt way bigger than when it was just a coffee house. The bar itself is a think of beauty incorporating tiny shells from the beach.

We sat inside and ordered food. Typically, for a first night (and especially with a larger than expected turnout for a low key opening) there were a few teething troubles in the kitchen (equipment not functioning properly etc). But the staff dealt with it really well and our food arrived. And it was great. The menu is mainly tapas and pizza – with a few kids items too. I suspect the menu will adapt over time, and that is normal for a new venture.

Since the opening night, we’ve stopped by during the day for a coffee, and also gone back in the late afternoon for a refreshing drink on a hot day.

All in all, Natalie and the team have worked hard to bring this venture to life, and so far it’s looking good – and a valuable asset to the area.
